TITLE : FABRICATION AND MACHINING OF HYBRID ALUMINIUM METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES USING DIFFERENT CUTTING TOOLS  
ABSTRACT :

This paper presents the influence of various cutting tools on surface roughness in turning of hybrid aluminium metal matrix composites (AI6061 -SiC-Al203) - The composites were fabricated using the liquid metallurgy technique by stir casting method under which wt.5% of particulates SiC and AI2O3 were dispersed in the base matrix The obtained cast composite was carefully machined using different cutting tools such as cubic boron nitride (CBN), polycrystalline diamond (PCD) and cemented carbide tools. The objective was to study the influence of different tools on surface roughness in work pieces. The test results revealed that among the three types of cutting tools used, PCD tools perform better in machining of hybrid metal matrix composites.
